Pre-operative Assessment

All patients undergoing anaesthesia will have a comprehensive pre-operative assessment with their specialist anaesthetist.    This is usually conducted on the day of the procedure, immediately prior to the procedure.   This is an important conversation where you are able to provide details of any medication you are currently taking, any allergies, and medical history.

In-rooms Pre-operative Consultation

If you are undergoing major or more complex surgery, if there are significant medical diseases, or if there are specific anaesthetic related concerns, you may be requested by the anaesthetist to attend a pre-operative consultation in our rooms prior to the day of your procedure.   In this instance, you will be contacted by our secretarial staff to set up an appointment.

It is important that you bring with you a list of current medications and the results of any relevant medical investigations.

There is a charge for the pre-operative assessment which is predominantly covered by Medicare.
