I completed specialist anaesthesia training in Victoria and the UK in 1996.   After initially working in paediatric anaesthesia, I joined the Geelong Anaesthetic Group in 1999.   In 2005 I also undertook training in family medicine, obtaining a fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and a Diploma in Child Health in 2007.

I continue to divide my working life between Family medicine and anaesthesia.   My anaesthesia interests are in peri-operative medicine, and managing post procedural pain; areas in which my General Practice experience contributes significantly.   I consider myself fortunate to work with skilled surgeons and proceduralists in a variety of specialties.

Profile
I graduated medicine as the dux of my year in 2011 and subsequently went on to complete the majority of my anaesthetic training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. During my training I obtained a masters in perioperative medicine and then moved to Geelong to undertake a further fellowship in perioperative medical care. We enjoyed our time in Geelong so much that we decided to stay, and here I am!

I enjoy all aspects of anaesthesia, but my skills in perioperative medicine allow me to give my best to our most medically complex patients. I am actively involved in teaching medical students and anaesthetic trainees, and I have a strong interest in improving patient safety and quality of care over the perioperative journey. More than anything I enjoy getting to know my patients and being able to provide comfort and care at a time when you need it the most.

When I am not at work I am spending precious moments with my three young children, making memories exploring the great outdoors. We love camping, bushwalking and swimming at the beach. At home I am happiest pottering in my little garden in the sunshine.

If you have any questions relating to your anaesthetic, please feel free to contact me via the office on 5222 3500.

Profile

I graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1998 with a Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and also a Bachelor degree in Medical Science (BMedSc).

I started doctor life as a resident at Geelong Hospital in 1999, and subsequently did postgraduate training throughout several Victorian Hospitals, including The Austin Hospital, Royal Children's Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and Mercy Hospital for Women.   In addition to 5 years of Anaesthetic training, I have completed 2 years of Intensive Care training, and have maintained a professional interest in medical research.

In 2010 I moved back to Geelong, and currently enjoy a diverse practice in non-cardiac anaesthesia.   I enjoy the broad variety of patients seen from the Geelong community, ranging from infants to centenarians, in most specialties of medicine.

In between work I’m kept busy with my haematologist wife and 4 children, living on acreage and pretending to be a farmer!

I prefer a down-to-earth approach to patient care, based on openness and honesty, and will always do my best to make sure that the anaesthetic is tailored to the individual needs of my patients.   Be prepared for a laugh before your anaesthetic!

External interests include family, friends, food, the mighty Cats, gardening, woodwork, bees, words, energy efficiency and new technologies amongst other things.   I am concerned that this description makes me sound like a bit of a nerd...   My aim is to keep you safe, relaxed and comfortable throughout your perioperative experience.

I am a Geelong local born and bred. Medical school allowed me to spend several years living in South Australia and the Northern Territory, where I was able to experience but a glimpse of what this great country has to offer. I returned to Geelong in 2012 to begin my early medical and anaesthetic training at Geelong Hospital. Anaesthetic training took me to many of the major Melbourne hospitals including The Alfred, The Royal Women’s and The Royal Children's. I completed my subspecialty fellowship training in paediatrics at The Royal Children's hospital and trauma management at The Royal Melbourne hospital before returning to Geelong to practise.

In addition to my special interest areas, I provide anaesthetic service for all surgical and medical specialties except cardiac surgery. I aim to provide all my patients with compassionate and best-practice care, fine-tuned by experience for each situation. As such, I am more than happy to discuss each individual circumstance to achieve the best possible outcomes.

I hold professional affiliations with ANZCA, ASA and the AMA.

Outside of work I spend my time with my young family with two beautiful kids. Once they are in bed, in all my spare time, I try to fit in some long distance running and pretend to be a farmer.

I started my medical career in Geelong in 2007. The majority of my training in anaesthesia has been in the major hospitals of Melbourne. I completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Anaesthesia at The Royal Children’s Hospital in order to prepare me for the relatively high number of paediatric patients in Geelong. My family and I also spent time in the Northern Territory while I completed a fellowship at the Royal Darwin Hospital, the NT’s major trauma hospital.

As a consultant anaesthetist I divide my time between working at my public appointment at The Alfred Hospital and in private practice in Geelong. I have a particular interest in paediatric anaesthesia but my broad training allows me to care for a diverse range of patients in the ever-expanding range of procedures in modern surgery.

Having an anaesthetic for surgery can be an anxiety provoking and stressful time for most people. My goal is to make your journey as comfortable and safe as possible. I want you to feel in control of your experience and there is no question too silly to ask. Every anaesthetic is different and we can tailor it to suit your needs after discussing your options.

My life outside of work revolves around my young family. We live on the surf coast and love mountain biking and surfing. My other love is Tasmania. We regularly head down to the family beach shack in the deep wild south at Cockle Creek for fishing, hiking and surfing adventures.
